Sun Chips Go Solar

Posted Nov 13th 2008  By Gabriel Harding

You would expect that with a name like Sun Chips this tasty snack would have been one of the first people to hop on the Solar train. Well they are not the first but they have just integrated a Solar Thermal plant to their Modesto California production plant. This solar farm consist of four acres made up of solar thermal collectors which heat up the water to 450 degrees. Once the water is at that temperature it is then pumped into the factories boiler system where it helps cook the wheat as well as heat the oil.

There are a total of eight plants that contribute to the production of Sun Chips and this is a very nice step towards being more effecient as well as reducing their carbon foot print. Lets hope to see their other seven plants make a change in the near future as well. You can take a look at the Sun Chips website here and I think I want some Sun Chips now.
