Just recently a school teacher named Louis Palmer pulled up to the Climate Conference Hall in a three wheeled solar powered car. The car is mostly made up of batteries and also has a tow trailer that is fully covered with solar cells to help keep the batteries of the car charged. He is said to have traveled over 40 countries in a 17 month time span covering over 30,000 miles proving that solar power can replace gasoline. The car can hit speeds up to 55mph on a full charge but in places that don’t get as much sun he has had to pull over and plug it in to charge the batteries.
I think the use of Solar Panels to charge the batteries of an electric car is a great idea but not when you need to have a trailer hitched to the back of your car in order to keep your charge. I’m thinking of this on a wider scale seeing as how traffic is bad enough already and steadily increasing and also the fact that he actually got stuck a couple times due to cloudy days. He did a good job proving a point though and I do believe as technology grows this idea can be made better and more efficient.
