We all know rocks to stay still with the inability to move unless a force is placed upon it. Well here is a rock found in Death Valley National Park, California which seems to move itself or with a little help of something. These rocks have long trails behind them and no one has actually seen these moves but of course they don’t just get up and walk themselves so a couple of theories have been thought up.
The first one I thought after simply seeing the pictures was that the wind played the biggest factor in the movement and it was a fairly simple guess but I was correct. Seeing as how the Racetrack Playa is a very vast, flat as well as dry area the combination of all these and the rock shape make it so that strong gusts can actually move the rocks causing them to make a trail behind them which actually makes the rock seem as if it just slided along.
This would definitely be a cool thing to see and I’m surprised no one has left a video camera sitting all day aiming at the rocks to actually be able to speed up the film later and see the rocks moving. People have made other theories as to how the rocks seem to move themselves but I really think its just the wind and ground conditions.
