New itHouse by Taalman Koch

Posted Oct 24th 2008  By Gabriel Harding

Taalman Koch architects have been looking for a method to make self sustainable houses and we have just seen a completed itHouse right outside of Joshua Tree National Park. This itHouse is the first of many to come in what seems to be the Three Junipers community. This house is powered completely by photovoltaic and solar thermal technology and not only that but the house is only 1,600 sq ft and uses the natural plants in its landscape.

This house is prefabricated to reduce on site waste and is mostly made out of glass panels that fit into an aluminum shell. Now you may think since the house is entirely glass that you would have no privacy but it is located in the desert and has rocks and trees all around the landscape for your privacy. Once you take the privacy account out of a glass house the concept is amazing because you always have a view of the nature that surrounds you. The only bad thing is you need to get curtains for your bedroom so your not awakened by the early morning sun.

The house pictured above and below has 3-bedrooms and  2-bathroom with a very open floor plan making the house seem a lot more spacious. The interior design is extremely nice and it has a solar-heated plunge pool for a little added touch. The one house that sits there was designed to be a model and you when the community is going to be set up you will be able to choose the design and size. itHouses start at $750,000 and the basic home begins at 1,100 sq ft for two bedrooms, one bath, and double courtyard. For more information you can check out the itHouse website now.
