Aimed at harvesting energy from our everyday activities is the Bionic Energy Harvester. This was developed by researchers at Simon Fraser University and was named by Time Magazine as 33 out of its Top 50 list calling this device “perhaps the most promising in a class of products that harvest energy - all the more important at a time when portable tech, from Blackberries to iPods, is becoming ubiquitous” which is a pretty nice achievement.

This device is powered from the energy that we put into slowing our knee joints at the end of every step. So the more you walk or run the more energy you are making while you have this brace on. Whats really cool about this though as that with time it could be possible to make this self power prosthetic limbs or medical implants. Of course as long as you walk a certain amount each day.

This design is still in testing and could still be a couple of years before it hits commercial markets but the Canadian military is set to test a prototype next spring. via cbc
