Usually when going by a dumpster and we hear a noise an animal or sometimes even a person comes out of the dumpster. Looking for something they lost or just maybe trying to be nosey many people have gone through dumpsters for one reason or another. Well apparently now businesses are doing so as well in order to save a very nice amount of cash.
Burt’s Bees is one of the companies that is doing this and they have actually found money in the dumpster. They made employees put on Hazmat suits and dig through the trash in order to find things that they could recycle and it saved the company about $25,000. That is amazing you could tell me my business would save $25,000 simply by sorting my trash I would dive right in (not literally).
Burt’s Bees has made a goal to reach zero landfill waste by 2020 and so far in the 18 months that they have been doing this they have compressed their waste from 40 tons of waste to 10. A very big improvement and what they do is that they save their trash for 2 weeks and then sort through it at the end to find anything that is recyclable. Not only is this a good way to save the company some money but hopefully it raises the awareness of the employees when they are throwing recyclable stuff into the trash cans.
If you would like more info about some other companies that have been doing this and what they have been saying you can head over to GreenBiz and check out their website.
