There are many people who still do not believe in the whole global warming issue or the fact the we have anything to do with it. Well recent studies show that since 2003 over two trillion tons of ice has melted from Greenland, Alaska and Antarctica. And if you think that is a lot scientist say that this is simply the beginning. More than half of this loss comes from Greenland and a NASA geophysicist claims that the water melted from Greenland would fill up about 11 Chesapeake Bays. You can find a excerpt from MSNBC as well as more information below.

The melting man concept has been used quite frequently to try to raise awareness on the Global Warming subject. The first time around we actually saw a person standing in a puddle, which signified his melting body, passing out flyers with information on what could be done to help you reduce your carbon footprint. Now a different approach from Nele Azevdo which involves men shaped figures that where made out of ice sitting in the midday sun slowly melting away to try to raise the awareness of people that this is what is happening to our polar caps. You can take a look at some more pictures of this art display below.

On Monday of this week Venice, Italy was flooded the deepest it has been in over 20 years. This is the fourth highest flood level that has been reached in Venice in its recent history. Waters reached a depth of over 5 feet making it extremely difficult, or inconvenient, to get around. Tourists and resident where urged to stay inside for safety reasons. Some did and others took pictures, rode the flood or just went about their normal day, of course dressed for the occasion (see pictures below). Could this be due to our current climate change? Floods this high have been seen in the past but it has been quite some time. Take a look at more pictures below.

There are many people in the world that are currently trying different methods to raise peoples awareness on the Global Warming Crisis. Well a man did such a thing in Buenos Aires’ Plaza Francia that really caught my attention. He was sitting in a puddle of what represents him melting while handing out flyers with steps and things you could do to lower your carbon footprint. On the flyer included ideas such as using public transportation, conserving water, reusing plastic bags, and buying energy-efficient appliances. This is a very good attempt by the Red Cross to raise awareness as well as raise money for the less fortunate that where caught in massive Natural Disasters said to be caused by global warming.

As the Global Warming issues grow bigger we see more companies trying to raise awareness amongst the community. HSBC Bank has recently done so by placing an aerial picture of a city scape at the bottom of a swimming pool to show people how cities could be submerged by rising sea levels or storms. I don’t really think this will raise as much awareness to global warming as provide an attraction for people in the area because this is a really cool looking pool.

Everyday we see people buying energy efficient bulbs or products such as the ones from Energy Star in order to reduce their carbon footprint as well as save money in the process. All of this does help but who is doing the most to reduce their footprint? Meet Joan Pick. She eats only raw food, uses only one bulb and enough energy to heat her kettle and she takes bucket baths. On top of that she hasn’t driven a car since 1973 and has only been in one twice since that date. She also hasn’t flown in an air plane since 1971. Take a look below at what she said in a recent interview.

If you have ever wondered the tree to person ratio here is a pretty cool study done by Nalani Nadkarni in which she answered that for us. After spending numerous hours checking NASA’s satellite photos she estimated there to be approximately 400 billion trees and over 6 billion people who inhabit the earth. After doing the math she came up with 61 trees per person. At first you may say hey that’s a pretty good amount but if you think about the amount of paper you have gone through in your lifetime and all the other accessories it starts to add up and that 61 trees doesn’t look like as much as you previously thought. You can still help though. If you take a look at our Reduce Your Carbon Footprints you can find many ways to help out the environment.

Scientists have just discovered a rock that actually absorbs Carbon Dioxide Emissions! You may be thinking to yourself that it couldn’t possibly absorb enough to help but studies have shown that it soaks it up at a rate high enough to significantly slow global warming. The rock is known as Peridotite and with some tweaks  can store up 2 billion or more tons of carbon dioxide, by speeding up the natural process.

Halloween is over and many of have a couple pumpkins laying around that you carved and set outside for Halloween. If your thinking of trashing them don’t. If they are still in good shape you can make a pumpkin pie or muffins out of there and its actually quite simple. If they are in pretty bad shape compost them. Pumpkins actually break down and provide pretty good nutrients for your garden. In order to get the best usage out of the nutrients in the pumpkins simple smash it up and spread it throughout your garden. Then cover it with some shredded leaves or grass clippings and there you have some nice natural nutrients for your garden plants. I like the pumpkin pie idea better though =). via tdg

Recent studies by the European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) have shown that by the year 2090 the world can halt fossil fuel use which will save 18 trillion dollars and will create a 360 billion dollar industry that provides half of the worlds electricity. This may seem as too long for most of use but the date predicted is when all fossil fuels will stop being used and we can rely solely on energy sources such as solar panels, wind turbines, wave farms and so on. A closer goal to look forward to though is that we can eliminate the use of coal by 2050. If you would like more information you can take a look at the PDF file that the EREC released by clicking here. via enn
