I’ve never really thought about this but the top of warehouse roofs are completely flat and they are pretty big as well. Well Southern California Edison saw this and took advantage of all that free space by installing Solar Panels across their roofs. They are planning to install these panels across 150 rooftops and one rooftop has been completed so only 149 more to go. Once all of the rooftops are done they will produce a combined peak capacity of 250 megawatts so the space is very nicely used.
The first site was a huge 600,000 square foot distribution warehouse and the next place where construction of the panels will begin is a 458,000 square foot building in Chino, California. Also as time passes we will see more and more companies taking advantage of their warehouse roofs by placing solar panels on top of them. You can check out the press releases at SCE if you want more information.
